How to Make Vanilla Scented Sugar

You know what’s surprisingly expensive? Vanilla scented sugar. You know what’s really inexpensive? Sugar. You can see where this is going.

Making vanilla scented sugar is ridiculously easy, and it’ll make you feel ultra classy when your friends see it in your cupboard. To make it, just drop a vanilla bean into an airtight container with about two cups of sugar and let it hang out for a couple of weeks. The longer it sits, the better it gets. I like to use vanilla beans that I’ve already scraped out for other recipes – it makes me feel like I’m getting away with something sneaky. Like I’m beating the system. Like I’m sticking it to The Man.

Vanilla scented sugar is perfect for making fancy whipped cream, tastes great in a cup of coffee, and makes a really cute addition to a gift basket. Just Pinterest your jar up with a twine bow and feel like Martha Stewart herself when your friends ooh and ahh over their swanky homemade sugar.
